A full truckload shipment, more commonly referred to as FTL, is a type of shipping method where the truck contains enough freight from one customer in a single shipment to fill an entire semi-trailer. In comparison to less-than truckload shipments, FTL carriers transport the freight directly to its destination versus being moved from trailer to trailer. This means there is much less handling of the shipment, as the contents are not transferred between trucks while in transit, so there is a lower chance for the shipment to be lost or damaged.
A full truckload shipment can range from 10 to 30 or more pallets if stackable. The largest restriction of a FTL shipment is the space the items take up. Typically a truckload shipment can range anywhere from 5,000 up to 45,000 pounds. When shipping with us we have a few guidelines for preparing and loading your shipment. All freight should be safely packed and shrink-wrapped onto skids where applicable for easy loading and unloading. When loaded onto the trailer it is important to ensure that the weight is distributed evenly over the entire length of the trailer. For more information regarding truck loading, view our loading instructions or call us at (888) 343-6806 with any questions.
Full truckload shipping requires shippers to fill entire vans or full flatbeds for shipping. Typically the shipping costs are the same for any given type of shipping in an FTL shipment. Full truckload shipping helps shippers realize the following benefits:
Lower Cost: FTL shipping is a cost-effective means of shipping items across the country or even within the same city. Because the shipments are fully loaded and there are fewer required stops which can reduce costs.
Faster Shipping Times: Full truckload shipping is the fastest way to ship your products across the country. Because there are fewer stops, the shipping route can be optimized for the fastest arrival times.
Less Expensive than LTL Shipping: because there are fewer stops than a typical LTL shipment, there is a reduced time cost with shipping full truckloads.
Van truckload trailers are enclosed trailers used to haul regular palletized, boxed, or floor-loaded freight that does not require special accommodations such as refrigeration or temperature control. Most of our van truckload trailers are typically 53′ long. For more information on van shipment loading instructions, view our FAQ questions page.
All America Transportation, Inc. works with carriers who specialize in the transport of hazardous materials throughout the contiguous United States. We ensure all of our trucking company partners are properly licensed, insured, and comply with DOT regulations.
A flatbed trailer works best for truckloads that will not fit inside a van trailer. The advantage of flatbed trailers is that the truckload freight can be unloaded from the sides or rear of the trailer versus a dry van. Freight is securely strapped to the trailer bed and may require tarping.
