A weekly index published by Internet Truckstop on March 4 indicates truckload demand had outpaced truckload capacity for the first time since September 2008. Freight executives and other industry experts have said the market is turning and it is difficult for shippers to comprehend the changes in truck availability.

Freight is particularly strong with retail and grocery shipments and is approaching 2006 levels. Other statistics are showing there are more loads than trucks on most days in Southern California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and the trend is spreading into Denver and the Midwest.
