Proposed Rule on Hours of Service Requirements
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) recently issued a regulatory proposal that would revise the hour of service requirements for commercial truck drivers.
The current 34-hour restart would remain in effect. This allows drivers to restart their 60-70 hour week after taking at least 34 consecutive hours off. The only proposed change in this would be the restart period woudl have to include two consecutive off duty perods from midnight to 6:00 am.
Other proposed changes would include drivers to complete all driving within a 14 hour workday and to complete all on duty work activities within 13 hours allowing 1 hour for break. The proposal also leaves open whether drivers should be limited to 10 or 11 hours of daily driving time. The FMSCA currently favors a 10 hour limit.
These proposed rule changes coincides with the court settlement agreement requiring the FMCSA to publish a final hours of service rule by 7/26/11.View All News Articles
