Missouri Traffic Fatalities Continue to Decrease

Traffic fatalities in the state of Missouri have dropped for the 6th straight year, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. In 2011 Missouri traffic fatalities totaled 784 as compared to 821 in 2010. This is a 4.5 percent drop and the lowest total since the late 1940’s.

In 2005 fatalities on Missouri highways totaled 1257 and have dropped consistently each year. Reasons for the decrease can be attributed to the efforts of the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, law enforcement professionals, emergency services personnel, and improvement in vehicle safety.
