Accidents involving commercial vehicles have dropped approximatley 52% since 2005. In 2005 there were 173 fatal crashes compared to 88 fatal crashes in 2009. Disabling injury crashes also fell 31% from 2005-2009.
Although there are several factors for the reduction of accidents including an emphasis on safety and education, the main reason cited was a lower number of lane departure crashes. These crashes have been reduced primarily because of the addition of rumble strips and guard cables places along our highways.
