Carriers Using Freight Brokers Increases

A recent survey from Transport Capital Partners showed a higher percentage of trucking companies were using freight brokers. According to the survey approximately 33% of trucking companies used freight brokers in February 2012 compared to 11% during the same month in 2011.

Carriers were turning to brokers to obtain higher priced freight. According to the TCP spot market freight is paying more than contract rates. Trucking companies were also turning to brokers because their individual rate increases are too small to cover increasing costs as well as difficulty in renegotiating current contracts and accessorial charges.
